We make real soap. That might seem like an obvious statement, but it’s worth saying. The truth is: many of the commercial “soap” brands found at your local supermarket are not really soaps at all. They are detergents made from a harsh blend of synthetic ingredients. Some contain harmful chemicals ranging from skin irritants to known human carcinogens. When these industrial cleaning products are washed down the drain, they are a serious pollutant in our rivers and streams.
That’s not what we wanted for our family, or the world we live in. So we began making our own natural, safe and effective alternative. Our soaps are made with organic ingredients and scented with therapeutic grade essential oils. We use a blend of olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and beeswax as the base for our soap. Our soaps contain no parabens, phthlates, sulfates, or petrochemicals.We avoid the use of palm oil due to the negative environmental practices employed by that industry.
Our fragrances have been specially chosen to celebrate the New England landscape, culture and heritage. All of our soaps are 4 oz. bars and are available à la carte or in boxed gift sets. Connecticut is known as “The Nutmeg State”. In the days of sail, merchant ships would bring back this rare and valuable commodity from the “Spice Islands”. It was said that Connecticut sailors could skillfully carve fake nutmeg seeds from wood and sell them for a tidy profit. Thus the term “Nutmeggers” for Connecticut inhabitants was born. The reputation may not be entirely fair though. It’s possible that buyers simply did not understand the nutmeg seed had to be ground instead of cracked like a walnut. In either case, we really couldn’t pass up using the incredible spice that gave our state its nickname.
Nutmegs culinary and medicinal uses are world-renowned. Traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine utilize nutmeg for its anti-inflammatory and astringent properties to treat eczema and other skin conditions. Nutmeg can also help get rid of clogged pores and reduce the appearance of scars.
We combine nutmeg with patchouli oil in our soap as a wonderful fragrance combination and also because patchouli essential oil can work alongside nutmeg helping to speed the healing process of minor cuts and wounds and fading scars.
